The Torah

  • Jesus went into the synagogues to teach the Torah (First five books of the Bible)
  • The Torah sustains what we believe
  • To know the Torah is to know who you are
  • To know who you are you have to know the truth
  • In the new church they taught the Torah with Jesus, they didn’t do away with the Torah

John 8:31-32 – Many have quoted this for years. But it’s not the truth that will set you free

The truth is…it’s the knowledge of truth and walking in it is what sets you free

  • We have been grafted into the family of Israel by the life and blood of Jesus Christ
  • The blood redeemed and reconnected us
  • The blood put us back in the covenant of promises
  • Isaiah 51:1-12 - We are co-heirs with Christ because we were grafted in
  • We have to go back to the tree
  • Jesus is the vine, we are the branches

  • Romans 11:17-18 – We (the wild olive) were broken off through our sin. God through his son connected us back.
  • The Jewish observances work because they’re biblical
  • Jesus never intended for the Jews and Christians to be separated
  • The Apostles were Jews, they taught and preached Jesus Christ, they observed the Jewish observances

  • Historically the olive tree is the longest living tree in the world
  • When we look at the physical olive tree we can see the blessings of the spiritual olive tree
  • The Israelites have outlived so many things in their lives just like the olive tree
  • Olives remains a source of wealth
  • The Olive tree is still used for anointing
  • God calls you the olive which means you are supposed to be anointed

Don’t get caught up in traditions, get caught up in the knowledge of truth

  • Mark 7:6-8 – The Word of God is infallible
  • Self motives and appeasement of men causes people to let go of the commands of God

Food For Thought:

Faith is our inheritance to the New Testament

And our inheritance is based upon our knowledge of the Old Testament

You have to have an understanding

Jesus Christ is the foundation

  • On one side: The prophets in the Old Testament
  • On the other side: The apostles in the New Testament
  • We’re no longer gentiles we’re grated in
  • Ephesians 2:19-21 - Jesus Christ is holding it all together as the Chief Cornerstone
  • Galatians 3:7-8 – It’s Jesus Christ’ blood that connects us

Lesson taught by Pastor Guy E. Jones, Sr.

See Torah at left for a deeper understanding of this lesson

In Judaism Sabbath begins on Friday at sunset and ends Saturday at sunset

Judaism and Christianity is supposed to be together not apart

The Torah describes the Sabbath as a reminder of God’s rest after the Creation.

The Torah is God commands to his people of prosperity, good health and into right relationship with God

Rest in Hebrew is Menuhah meaning peace, harmony, happiness, no strife, free of hostility

Note: In the Bible when you see words in italics that word has been changed from its Hebrew word to give you a better understanding. A Hebrew dictionary will help you understand the intended meaning as seen above.

Sabbath is

  • a covenant God made with man
  • It’s not about worship, it has everything to do with obedience to observe it
  • Keep it Holy because it’s an appointed time set aside by God
  • Genesis 18:14, Exodus 9:5, Job 7:1 = God is a God of appointments

Take the time out to meditate. Keep the Sabbath as an ordinance. Keep as an appointment

Appointment:  Set time; Arrangement of a meeting; Scheduled time

  • Some time during that time we need to observe
  • God is ALWAYS with us. He set aside an appointment of the Sabbath
  • The 10 commandments gave warning against certain behaviors
  • 2 positive sides
    • Honor thy father and mother and Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy
  • Commandments of promise…Doing these things will bring blessings upon you

Genesis 1:24-25

It was good because it was created for us

God didn’t need it for himself

It was good enough for what he was about to do

Genesis 1:26

On the 6th day he created man

Genesis 1:31

He declared that it was finished

Genesis 2:1

Rest in Hebrew means peace, comfort, free of

hostility. All this is included in the Sabbath

Genesis 2:3

The Lord blessed, sanctified and set aside this

                blessed day!

Every day is blessed but the Sabbath is the special

                appointed day

Mark 2:23

The Pharisees tried to put legalism on the Sabbath

Mark 2:27

The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the

                  Sabbath

Jesus brought in a remodeled way. He didn’t tear the

                  structure down

God gave the Sabbath power, peace, and miracles

                Hebrews 4:4-12

                Enter into my peace…comfort

This has been my appointment from the beginning

Hear my voice…don’t harden your heart

Observe, take the time out for your appointment

It’s a day set aside for you to commune with me

Who am I? I AM THE WORD

The word is going to penetrate you

It’s going to take labour…you’re going to

                                have to press

Exodus 31:12-14

The Sabbath is for all generations to come!!

Morte’az in Greek means keep, remember

Judaism and Christianity is supposed to be together not apart

The church turned from the doctrine.

This parting took over 2-3 centuries when the church was being persecuted.

AD 135: Roman Emperor Hadrian outlawed keeping the Sabbath

Man did away with the Sabbath

Constantine the Great became the Emperor of Rome

AD 325: He arranged the Council of Nicaea

He changed the observance of Nisan (Passover)

The date was set in stone in the Torah as the 14th day. See Leviticus 23:5

Constatine changed the Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday for political reasons. Note: Man changed that

1.       Some Jews started rejecting Christ

2.       As Romans stepped up the pursuits it seemed a good time to separate Judaism and Christianity

The gates of hell shall not prevail, but it did hinder some things for a season

In essence Romans were saying don’t be like…Moses, Isaiah, Paul, Jeremiah, Jesus

The Sabbath:

Activate the knowledge

Malachi 3:10 – try me

Honor this day and watch me!
